Con su fusión única de rock y música electrónica, STOLEN ahora llega a Latinoamérica en una entrevista exclusiva para Bunka Wave.

Desde sus inicios en las aulas de una academia de música, STOLEN ha recorrido un largo camino. Hoy en día, son una de las bandas más reconocidas de China y continúan evolucionando constantemente. Su sonido, que ha ido madurando con cada álbum, refleja su búsqueda incansable de nuevas experiencias y su deseo de explorar nuevos territorios musicales. Con una base de fans cada vez más grande y un futuro lleno de promesas, STOLEN está listo para conquistar el mundo.
La banda está redefiniendo los límites del rock, fusiona elementos tradicionales chinos con ritmos electrónicos modernos para crear un sonido verdaderamente único. Su conexión con el público es innegable. Sus conciertos son una experiencia única, donde la energía de la banda se contagia al público y crea una atmósfera eléctrica. Con cada nota, STOLEN logra transmitir emociones intensas y conectar con sus seguidores a un nivel profundo.
Bunka Wave: Muchas gracias por aceptar esta entrevista para los seguidores de América Latina. Brevemente, ¿Cómo comenzaron su carrera musical?
STOLEN (Fang De, Guitarrista): Al principio, algunos de nosotros estábamos estudiando en la división de secundaria de una academia de música en Sichuan. Durante la parte final de la secundaria, comenzamos a tocar música juntos porque nos gustaban géneros similares. Tocábamos en algunos eventos escolares, pero todavía éramos bastante amateurs en ese entonces. Sin embargo, al final de la secundaria, ya habíamos decidido que queríamos seguir con esta banda durante la universidad. Así que todos aplicamos a la división universitaria de la misma escuela, y fue ahí cuando oficialmente comenzamos a desarrollar STOLEN como banda.
B.W. ¿Cómo describirías tu sonido a alguien que no ha escuchado tu música?
STOLEN: Es parte rock, parte electrónico, pero lo más importante es que se trata de mezclar todos los elementos que nos emocionan para crear música que se sienta verdaderamente emocionante.
B.W. ¿Hay una historia detrás de alguna de sus canciones que te gustaría compartir?
STOLEN: Tenemos una canción llamada «The Loop Sin», que escribimos después de hacer una gira con nuestro primer álbum, LOOP. En ese momento, estábamos experimentando con la incorporación de más elementos electrónicos en nuestro sonido rock. Nos encontramos sintiéndonos un poco perdidos en los bucles electrónicos repetitivos, pero sentíamos que nos estábamos acercando a una nueva forma inexplorada de crear. Fue en ese estado mental complejo, casi enredado, que terminamos esta canción.
B.W. ¿Cómo es su proceso de composición? ¿Cómo eligen los temas que quieren explorar en su música?
STOLEN: Nuestro enfoque para la composición es bastante tradicional: trabajamos juntos en la sala de ensayo, tocando, buscando esa chispa para construir una canción. A partir de ahí, se trata de prueba, discusión, grabación y refinamiento de cada pieza paso a paso. Creo que cada uno de nosotros aporta sus propias ideas cuando estamos creando una canción. Algunas ideas se inspiran en los sonidos que estamos haciendo en el momento, y pueden conectarse inmediatamente con cosas que están sucediendo en nuestras vidas, cosas que estamos viendo o pensando. Estas ideas comienzan a formar imágenes y, eventualmente, dan forma a la dirección y el tema de la canción.
B.W. ¿Cuál ha sido su experiencia más memorable en el escenario hasta ahora?
STOLEN: En 2019, fuimos el acto de apertura de la gira europea de New Order. Durante el último espectáculo en Ámsterdam, mientras estábamos interpretando nuestra canción «Chaos», de repente se cayó la consola de sonido, causando que todos los altavoces externos se quedaran en silencio. Sin embargo, aún podíamos escucharnos en los auriculares de monitor, y no teníamos idea de lo que estaba sucediendo afuera.
Lo que más nos sorprendió fue que, incluso con solo un sonido tenue proveniente de la batería acústica y los amplificadores de guitarra, el público continuó aplaudiendo y animando al ritmo hasta que la consola volvió a funcionar y la música llenó nuevamente el lugar. Cuando vimos el video de la actuación después, nos pareció increíble que un problema tan importante ocurriera durante el show, y aun así no éramos conscientes de ello en el escenario.
B.W. ¿Conocen alguna banda o músico latinoamericano? Si no, ¿qué les gustaría aprender sobre la música en América Latina?
STOLEN: Ninguno de nosotros ha estado alguna vez en América Latina, y para mí (Fang De, el guitarrista), toda mi información proviene del fútbol, incluidos artistas como Ricky Martin y Shakira. Estamos realmente ansiosos por el día en que podamos visitar América Latina y explorar la escena musical local. Es difícil imaginar cómo son las escenas de rock y música electrónica allí, y creo que hay muchos artistas destacados, pero actualmente es complicado para nosotros conectarnos con ellos.
B.W. En su gira más reciente fuera de China, ¿qué significa para ustedes presentarse en festivales y eventos musicales?
STOLEN: Esto significa que podemos sentir la retroalimentación de la manera más directa. A veces es como una fiesta, donde nosotros y el público participamos en una celebración completa y una liberación. Otras veces, se siente como una prueba, comprobando si nuestra nueva música realmente puede resonar con la gente. En cualquier caso, cada actuación es una experiencia única.
B.W. ¿Cómo ven la evolución de la escena musical en Chengdu y en China en general?
STOLEN: En los últimos años, tanto en Chengdu como en toda China, la escena musical ha estado experimentando cambios significativos. Se están estableciendo cada vez más grandes recintos y festivales de música, y muchas bandas y músicos están logrando éxito comercial. Sin embargo, al mismo tiempo, los recintos y eventos más pequeños están siendo cada vez menos comunes, lo que deja a algunas bandas nuevas con oportunidades de actuación insuficientes. Actualmente, se siente como un período de transición y, con suerte, en el futuro podría alcanzar un estado más equilibrado.
B.W. ¿Tienes algún consejo para las bandas emergentes que recién están comenzando sus carreras?
STOLEN: Me gustaría decir que intenten enfocarse en acumular la mayor cantidad de trabajo y experiencia en presentaciones posible. No se desanimen si no logran altos resultados en poco tiempo. Y crean en ustedes mismos.
B.W. Finalmente, ¿pueden enviarnos un saludo a Bunka Wave en Colombia y América Latina?

Since their beginnings in the classrooms of a music academy, STOLEN has come a long way. Today, they are one of the most recognized bands in China and continue to evolve constantly. Their sound, which has matured with each album, reflects their tireless quest for new experiences and their desire to explore new musical territories. With an ever-growing fan base and a future full of promise, STOLEN is ready to conquer the world.
The band is redefining the boundaries of rock, blending traditional Chinese elements with modern electronic rhythms to create a truly unique sound. Their connection with the audience is undeniable. Their concerts are a unique experience, where the energy of the band infects the crowd and creates an electric atmosphere. With each note, STOLEN manages to convey intense emotions and connect with their followers on a deep level.
BUNKA WAVE. Thank you very much for accepting this interview for the Latin American followers. How did you start your musical career?
STOLEN (Fang De, Guitar): In the beginning, a few of us were studying at the high school division of a music academy in Sichuan. During the latter part of high school, we started playing music together because we were into similar genres. We’d play at some school events, but we were still pretty amateur back then. However, by the end of high school, we had already decided we wanted to keep this band going through college. So, we all applied to the university division of the same school, and that’s when we officially started developing STOLEN as a band.
B.W. How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard your music?
STOLEN: It’s part rock, part electronic, but most importantly, it’s about blending all the elements that excite us to create music that feels truly thrilling.
B.W. Is there a story behind one of your songs that you’d like to share?
STOLEN: We have a track called The Loop Sin, which we wrote after touring our first album, LOOP. At that time, we were experimenting with incorporating more electronic elements into our rock sound. We found ourselves feeling a bit lost in the repetitive electronic loops, yet it felt like we were getting close to a new, uncharted way of creating. It was in that complex, almost tangled state of mind that we finished this song.
B.W. What is your songwriting process like? How do you choose the themes you want to explore in your music?
STOLEN: Our approach to songwriting is pretty traditional—we work together in the rehearsal room, playing, searching for that spark to build a song around. From there, it’s all about trial, discussion, recording, and refining each piece step by step. I think each of us brings our own ideas when we’re creating a song.
Some ideas are inspired by the sounds we’re making in the moment, and they might immediately connect with things happening in our lives, things we’re seeing or thinking about. These ideas start to form images, and eventually they give shape to the direction and theme of the song.
B.W. What has been your most memorable experience on stage so far?
STOLEN: In 2019, we were the opening act for New Order’s European tour. During the final show in Amsterdam, while we were performing our song Chaos, the soundboard suddenly crashed, causing all the external speakers to go silent. However, we could still hear ourselves in the monitor headphones, and we had no idea what was happening outside.
What surprised us the most was that even with only a faint sound coming from the acoustic drums and guitar amps, the audience continued to clap and cheer along with the rhythm until the soundboard was back online, and the music filled the venue again. When we watched the video of the performance afterward, we found it unbelievable that such a major issue occurred during the show, yet we were completely unaware of it on stage.
B.W., Do you know any Latin American bands or musicians? If not, what would you like to learn about music in Latin America?
STOLEN: None of us has ever been to Latin America, and for me（Fang De, the guitarist）, all my information comes from football, including artists like Ricky Martin and Shakira. We’re really looking forward to the day we can visit Latin America and explore the local music scene. It’s hard to imagine what the rock and electronic music scenes are like there, and I believe there are many outstanding artists, but currently, it’s tough for us to connect with them.
B.W. On their most recent tour outside China. ¿What does it mean for you to perform at festivals and music events?
STOLEN: This means we can feel the feedback in the most direct way. Sometimes it’s like a party, where we and the audience engage in a complete celebration and release. Other times, it feels like a test, checking if our new music can truly resonate with people. In any case, every performance is a unique experience.
B.W. How do you see the evolution of the music scene in Chengdu and in China in general?
STOLEN: In recent years, both in Chengdu and across China, the music scene has been undergoing significant changes. More and more large venues and music festivals are being established, and many bands and musicians are achieving commercial success. However, at the same time, smaller venues and events are becoming less common, which leaves some new bands with insufficient performance opportunities. It currently feels like a transitional period, and hopefully, in the future, it will reach a more balanced state.
B.W. Do you have any advice for emerging bands just starting their careers?
STOLEN: I’d like to say, try to focus on accumulating as much work and performance experience as possible. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t achieve high results in a short time. And believe in yourself.
