Esta banda japonesa estará debutando en escenarios internacionales en el próximo SXSW 2012, para lo cual nos concedieron esta agradable entrevista a inicios de este año, gracias a nuestros amigos y colegas de New Audiogram en Nueva York. – This Japanese band will be debuting in the international stage on the next SXSW 2012, which gave us this nice interview earlier this year; we thanks to our friends and colleagues New Audiogram from New York.

Dos años es el tiempo que lleva esta agrupación surgida en Tokio y ya han ganado mucho terreno entre la audiencia japonesa e internacional. Lagitagida nos canta desde las cuerdas de Kohhan Ohtake, con un coro celestial entre el bajo armonioso de Takehito Kono y la precisa batería de Takayoshi Yazawa, en el que la mezcla de instrumentos electrónicos y análogos nos evocan a Dream Theater y The Mars Volta, pero con el sello característico de un Rock Alternativo Progresivo de Vanguardia (con pizcas de Jazz y Funk), en el que el cantante es la fusión de sus instrumentos al unísono, llevándonos a extremos de virtuosismo con pinceladas de una sincronizada y agradable jam session. Por todo esto, Lagitagida dará mucho de que hablar cuando se presenten en el primer festival musical del año en los albores de la primavera en Austin, Texas: el SXSW 2012, una revelación musical que exporta la nación del Sol Naciente hacia Occidente. Mientras tanto, conversamos con ellos en el que no sólo están promoviendo a través de New Audiogram su segundo mini-álbum Carta Marina, lanzado el pasado 11 de enero, sino también esperan conquistar los oídos y los corazones de los estadounidenses (y ver uno que otro torso desnudo de una fanática) y soñar con presentarse en vivo en nuestro continente, pero además poder escuchar nuestros sonidos, los cuales forman parte del gran espíritu de la música (wa) que se pasea sin detenerse por todos los rincones del planeta.
Colectivo Bunka. Agradecemos que hayan aceptado esta entrevista para Colombia y Latinoamérica. Brevemente, ¿cómo se conocieron ustedes entre sí para llegar a tocar juntos como Lagitagida?
Kohhan Ohtake. Lagitagida la formamos en abril del 2010, pero nos conocíamos desde mucho antes. Nos conocimos en el centro de Tokio. Kono y yo antes de formar esta banda, tocábamos juntos Rock Progresivo en Mahiruno por 5 años y ambos éramos miembros originales de esa banda. Yazawa lo conocimos cuando tocábamos en Mahiruno; él tocaba en una banda llamada Green Milk from The Planet Orange, por eso andábamos juntos muchas veces. Kono y Takayoshi ya habían formado una banda en el pasado y Yazawa y yo, antes de formar Lagitagida, ya tocábamos en Sajjanu, así que esta banda está formada por ese tipo de lazos.
En noviembre de 2011, la banda lanzó su primer mini-álbum: CaterpiRhythm (2011).
C. B. ¿Cuáles son sus mayores influencias?
K. O. Pienso que la influencia de Zappa es bastante grande. ¡También muchas otras cosas! ¡Cualquier persona o cosa que nos impacte!
C. B. ¿Qué temas inspiran a Lagitagida para componer y tocar las canciones?
K. O. ¡La música misma!
C. B. Conocimos la tragedia que padeció su país. En la actualidad, Japón está renaciendo. ¿Cómo vivieron esta tragedia natural y cuál ha sido su aporte para la reconstrucción de su nación?
K. O. Cada miembro ha estado hacienda labores de caridad, pero lo que Lagitagida siempre debe hacer es insistir con el Rock Instrumental. Así que no queremos que sea afectada por el medio social de Japón. Pero pienso que es bueno si la música nuestra le da energía a las personas que sufrieron en la tragedia. Como banda es lo único que podemos hacer. Personalmente, incluso antes del terremoto vivía al límite, entonces lo único que haré será vivir bien, como siempre lo he hecho.

C. B. En este nuevo año (2012), ustedes tocarán en el festival SXSW como banda internacional invitada. ¿Cómo lograron este cupo para tocar en el certamen más importante en los Estados Unidos?
K. O. Siempre Lagitagida ha querido ir a Norteamérica, así que para lograr abrir puertas entramos a participar y se decidió nuestra ida.
C. B. ¿Cómo imaginan la respuesta del público estadounidense cuando estén tocando en el escenario? ¿Cuáles son las canciones que tocarán en el SXSW 2012, en Austin?
K. O. Creo que la respuesta será excelente. Sensya la tocaremos, de seguro lo haremos.
C. B. ¿Cuáles son sus expectativas acerca de esta presentación en los Estados Unidos?
K. O. Podré ver a muchas mujeres con el pecho desnudo. (Risas)
C. B. ¿Conocen o han oído alguna banda o músico latinoamericano? (si su respuesta es negativa, ¿qué les gustaría conocer de Latinoamérica en cuanto a su música?)

K. O. ¡Pantera, Pantera, Pantera!
C. B. ¿Qué planes tienen este año después del SXSW 2012?
K. O. Pensamos en hacer un álbum y tocar en conciertos por varios lugares. Si se nos presenta la oportunidad de hacer un tour por América de seguro lo haremos y también queremos ir por toda Asia y a Europa.
C. B. ¿Cómo imaginas Lagitagida en un par de años, en el futuro?
K. O. Siempre ideamos seguir aspirando a más. Pero un par de años pueden ser largos, incluso puede que estemos en la Era de Hielo… En vez de pensar en algo tan a futuro, lo ideal para nosotros es que sigamos viviendo y sonando la música en este momento.

C. B. ¿Qué consejo les darías a aquellas personas que están en una banda y desean dedicarse a tocar J-music en Latinoamérica?
K. O. Que deben incluir el “wa” [N. del T. “wa” (和) se refiere, dicho de una manera muy resumida, al espíritu japonés. Japón era conocido antes como el país del “wa”, por eso la palabra hace referencia a su espíritu, a su cultura y a sus tradiciones.]
C. B. Nuevamente, muchísimas gracias por esta agradable entrevista y me encantaría que les enviaran un saludo a nuestros oyentes en Colombia y Latinoamérica.

Two years is the time it took this group emerged in Tokyo and they have gained much ground between the Japanese and international audience. Lagitagida sings from the strings of Kohhan Ohtake, with a heavenly choir between Kono Takehito and his bass harmonious and precise drums by Takayoshi Yazawa, wherein the mixture of electronic and analogue instruments we evoke in similar way to Dream Theater and The Mars Volta, but with the hallmark of a progressive alternative rock avant-garde (with hints of jazz & funk), in which the singer is the merging of their instruments in a unique voice, leading to extreme virtuosity with touches of a synchronized and enjoyable jam session. Therefore, Lagitagida give plenty to talk about when they will play in the first music festival at the beginning of spring in Austin, TX: SXSW 2012, a musical revelation that the Rising Sun Nation exports to the West. Meanwhile, we spoke to them in not only they being promoted through New Audiogram their second mini-album Carta Marina, released on 1/11, but expect to conquer the ears and hearts of Americans (and see one other naked breast of a girl fan) and they wish to perform in live on our continent, but also to hear our sounds, which are part of the great spirit of the music (wa) without stopping to walk all over the world.
Colectivo Bunka. We appreciate that they have accepted this interview to Colombia and Latin America. Briefly, how did you guys get together to play together as Lagitagida?
Kohhan Ohtake. Lagitagida was born in April 2010, but we knew long before. We met in downtown Tokyo. Kono and me before to create this band, we used played together progressive rock in Mahiruno for 5 years and we were both original members of that band. Yazawa met him when we played Mahiruno, he played in a band named Green Milk from The Planet Orange, and so we were together many times. Takayoshi and Kono had formed a band in the past and Yazawa and me, before funding Lagitagida, we played in Sajjanu; so, this band is formed by such friendship ties.
C. B. What are your biggest influences?
K. O. I think Zappa’s influence is quite large. Also many other things! Anyone or anything that impacts us!
C. B. What topics inspire Lagitagida to compose and play the songs?
K. O. The music itself!
C. B. We know the tragedy suffered by his country. In the current day, Japan is being reborn. How did they live this natural disaster and what was their contribution to the rebuilding of their country?
K. O. Each member has been doing charity work, but what is Lagitagida should always insist on the instrumental rock. So, we do not want to be affected by the social environment in Japan. But I think it’s good if our music gives energy to people who suffered in the tragedy. As a band is all we can do. Personally, even before the earthquake I used live on the edge, then all I’ll do is live well, as I have always done.
C. B. In this New Year (2012), you will perform at the SXSW such as International Guest Band. How did you get this seat to play in the most important festival in America?
K. O. Lagitagida always wanted to go to America, so to get open doors to participate and we decided our going.
C. B. How do you imagine the response of the American public when they are playing on stage? What are the songs that will play at SXSW 2012 in Austin?
K. O. I think the answer will be excellent. We’ll play Sensya, it’s very sure we will.
C. B. What are your expectations about this presentation in the U.S.?
K. O. I can see many women with breast exposed. (Lol)
C. B. Do you know or have heard any band or musician from Latin America? (If not, what would you like to know Latin America in terms of music?)
K. O. Pantera, Pantera, Pantera!
C. B. What are your plans this year after SXSW 2012?
K. O. We thought about making an album and playing gigs in various places. If we have the opportunity to tour in America, its safe we will and also want to go all over Asia and Europe.
C. B. How do you imagine Lagitagida in a couple of years, in the future?
K. O. Whenever we devised continues to aspire to more. But a couple of years may be long, even we may be in the Ice Age… Instead of thinking of something as a future, ideal for us is that we continue living and playing music at this time.
