Conozca esta banda que combina reggae con rock alternativo pero con la sonoridad típica japonesa desde la óptica de una fanática quien asistió a su reciente concierto en Nueva York. –  We introduce this J-band who play a sound fusion between reggae with alternative rock from the vision of a girl fan who attended his latest concert in New York.

RIZE es una banda originaria del barrio Shimokitazawa (mejor conocido como Shimokita), al oeste del Distrito Setagaya, en Tokio. Su sonido es una mezcla de rock alternativo, hard rock, punk, rap e incluso reggae. La integra un trío conformado por N.K (Nobuaki Kaneko) en la batería, KenKen, quien hace de bajista y en la voz y cuerdas, Jesse McFaddin. RIZE empieza con Jesse y N.K, amigos de la infancia, en el año 1997. Antes de llegar a la formación actual, contaron con varios músicos, incluyendo al actual bajista de Yellow Fried Chickenz, U:Zo. Este al retirarse, entra en su lugar el hermano de Nobuaki, KenKen. Su presencia en escenario es potente y capaz de atrapar a cualquier audiencia gracias a su gran versatilidad. KenKen es bajista de primer rango y su hermano Nobuaki es el único baterista en Japón certificado por la marca Pearl. Mientras que el talento de Jesse es herencia de CHAR, su padre, quien es un legendario guitarrista en Japón.

Su debut oficial ocurrió en el año 2000 al presentarse en el 10º Festival de Música Kitazawa, organizado en el barrio oriundo de la banda. Allí fueron fichados por el sello Epic Records quienes grabaron en el verano de ese año el sencillo Kaminari. Desde entonces, RIZE empezó su vertiginoso ascenso musical, tocando en algunos lugares de Asia para luego, presentarse en diferentes escenarios internacionales como ser uno de los grupos invitados para el famoso evento Live Earth, compartiendo tarima con Linkin Park, en el 2007. La banda no tiene miedo de explorar nuevos territorios y es así como recientemente tocaron en La Gran Manzana, el pasado 26 de marzo, en el Studio del Webster Hall, junto con sus colegas y paisanos Fade. Además, su canción Zero, es la más popular ya que es el jingle de la campaña publicitaria de Coca Cola Zero en el continente asiático.

Le presentamos a continuación unos párrafos de la crónica vivida por una de sus fans, Nao Takamui, quien desde Venezuela llegó a esta ciudad únicamente para deleitar sus oídos por ambas bandas: “El día del concierto sería el último día que pasaríamos en Nueva York, así que aprovechamos toda la mañana y toda la tarde para caminar las calles más conocidas de la ciudad y hacer unas cuantas compras, así como tomar el tour en bus de toda la ciudad y ver las cosas más hermosas de ella.

(…) Ya eran las 7:30 p.m., por lo que realmente íbamos tarde, pues el concierto empezaría exactamente a esa hora en el Studio at Webster Hall, así que prácticamente corrimos a tomar el primer taxi que nos pasó por delante. Estábamos un poco nerviosos porque no teníamos idea de donde quedaba el lugar del concierto, aunque si teníamos la dirección escrita, pero estábamos un poco lejos o eso parecía. Lo que nos daba aliento era que, por ser un evento de caridad por el cumplimiento de un año luego de la tragedia del terremoto de Japón, tocarían 4 bandas diferentes (…)

Vino el turno de RIZE entonces, y nos sentíamos muy curiosos al respecto. Vimos que tocarían 11 canciones, pues podíamos leer y ver el setlist que estaba pegado en el piso, justo frente a nosotros.

Para ser honestos, no esperábamos que sonaran tan bien, pero nos sorprendieron muchísimo, sonaban espectacular. El sonido del local, aunque el espacio era muy pequeño, era espectacular, no estaba saturado para nada y todo se oía de manera perfecta. El bajista de la banda, KenKen era un poco sobrado en escenario (risas), pero tenía razón para serlo, realmente era excelente músico, así como los demás integrantes de la banda: Jesse (vocalista-guitarrista) y Kaneko (baterista).

Así, lamentablemente todo llegó a su fin, y tuvimos que salir del cálido club a la gélida calle de Nueva York. En las afueras, se encontraban Noriyuki y Rui. El bajista se despidió de nosotros, agitando su mano en señal de despedida y así, tristemente tomamos el primer taxi que conseguimos, de vuelta al hotel. Realmente sentimos que el tiempo compartido con la banda no fue lo suficiente, pero por supuesto que lo fue, y nos sentimos agradecidos al máximo por su hospitalidad y amabilidad. Son personas y músicos excelentes. Nuestros mejores deseos van para la banda, RIZE y sus respectivos staff, así como el Studio at Webster Hall y los organizadores del evento como tal (…) Esperamos que ahora sepan de verdad cuanto los queremos aquí y que algún día se animen a pisar tierras latinas.”

RIZE is a band from Shimokitazawa neighborhood (aka Shimokita), west of Setagaya district in Tokyo. Their sound is a mix of alternative rock, hard rock, punk, rap and even reggae. This trio is conformed by N.K (Nobuaki Kaneko) on drums, KenKen, who plays bass and vocals & strings, Jesse McFaddin. RIZE begins with Jesse and N.K, childhood friends, in 1997. Before arriving at the current line-up, they have included other musicians, including the current bassist Yellow Fried Chickenz, U: Zo. When he has gone, go instead Nobuaki’s brother, KenKen. His stage presence is powerful and able to catch any audience with their versatility. KenKen is first-rate bassist and his brother is the only drummer in Japan certified by the brand Pearl. While Jesse’s talent is inherited from CHAR, his father, who is a legendary guitarist in Japan.

His official debut was in 2000 to be played at the 10^th Kitazawa Music Festival, organized in the native neighbor of the band. They were signed to Epic Records who recorded in the summer of that year the single Kaminari. Since then, they began their rapid music growth, playing in some venues of Asia and then, presented in different international stage as one of the groups invited to the famous Live Earth event, sharing the stage with Linkin Park in 2007. The band is not afraid to explore new territory and this is how they recently played at The Big Apple, on March 26^th March in the Studio at Webster Hall, along with his colleagues and countrymen Fade. In addition, their song Zero is the most popular because it is the jingle of the advertising campaign for Coca Cola Zero in Asia.

We introduce below a few paragraphs of a chronic lived by one of her fans, Nao Takamui, who she flew from Venezuela to be arrived here only to feast your ears for both J-bands: «The day of the concert was the last day we would spend in New York, so we took all morning and all afternoon to walk the most famous streets of the city and make a few purchases, and take the bus tour across the city and see the most beautiful things in it.

(…) It was already 7:30 pm, so we were really late; the concert would begin at exactly that time in the Studio at Webster Hall, so I practically ran to take the first taxi that drove past. We were a little nervous because we had no idea where was the concert venue, but if we had written the address, but we were a little far or so it seemed. What was that gave us breath, being a charity event for the fulfillment of one year after the tragic earthquake in Japan; bands would play 4 different (…)

RIZE’s turn came then, and we were very curious about it. We saw that they would play 11 songs, as we read and see the set list that was taped to the floor, right in front of us.

To be honest, we did not expect them to sound as well, but they surprised us very much, sounded spectacular. The sound of the premises, although the space was very small, was spectacular, was not saturated at all and all you could hear perfectly. The band’s bassist was a little left KenKen on stage (lol), but had reason to be, it was really great musician as well as other members of the band: Jesse (vocals-guitar) and Kaneko (drums).

So, unfortunately it all came to an end, and had to leave the club to warm the chilly streets of New York. Outside, were Noriyuki and Rui. The bassist took leave of us, waving his hand in farewell and so sadly we take the first taxi we got, back to the hotel. We really feel like spending time with the band was not enough, but of course it was, and we are grateful to the maximum for their hospitality and kindness. They are great people and musicians. Our best wishes go to the band, and their respective staff RIZE and the Studio at Webster Hall and the organizers of the event itself (…) we hope you really know how much we love here and that one day will be encouraged to step on our Latin land. «
