El gran artista japonés habló abiertamente en exclusiva con Colectivo Bunka sobre su enorme interés en seguir tocando en Latinoamérica y en el resto del mundo. – This great Japanese artist openly spoke exclusively with Colectivo Bunka on his huge interest in continuing playing in Latin America and the rest of the world.

“¡Una entrevista con Eizo Sakamoto!” Esa era la frase que no dejaba de repetirme una y otra vez a mí misma y a todos mis amigos en Tokio. Pero claro, es que ese tipo de oportunidades no surge todos los días y más aun disfrutando esta gran metrópoli cuando estuve como turista.
Consagrado artista, ex-integrante de las agrupaciones JAM Project, Animetal, y Anthem, ampliamente reconocido por sus temas “Juppongatana” (Rurouni Kenshin) y “Towa no Mirai” (Rurouni Kenshin Movie Ending), además de innumerables covers de anime con sonidos metal, me había confirmado la solicitud de reunirse conmigo para poder conversar y conocer más sobre sus futuros proyectos pero también sus experiencias en esta exclusiva charla con Colectivo Bunka. Amablemente acordamos en vernos en un restaurante de pasta, dentro de esos enormes edificios de Shinjuku, un distrito donde puedes encontrar desde los mejores restaurantes hasta las más glamorosas tiendas de moda, oficinas de los grandes bancos y en su planta sótano, ¡una estación de metro!
Para las 11 de la mañana concertamos el encuentro. Realmente una hora muy generosa, porque la noche anterior había sido invitada a asistir a un ensayo de la banda de rock HumanDrive en el estudio de Orpheus Records en Koiwa (dirección Chiba) que se había prolongado hasta el amanecer, con lo que necesitaría todo el tiempo extra que pudiese ganar. Así que lamentando mi cara de cansancio, salí disparada desde donde estaba alojada, en Sangubashi, a 5 minutos en tren hasta la gran estación de Shinjuku.
Llevaba bastante tiempo de margen así que pensé: “el restaurante según el mapa está solo a unos cientos de metros y aunque está lloviendo, ¿para qué coger el metro?, me apetece ver el ambiente y el bullicio de las calles de Shinjuku”. ¡Craso error! Si no conoces muy bien las infinidades de salidas de esta estación, y eso es lo que me pasó, una vez fuera de la estación y cuando el GPS logró situarse, estaba en el punto completamente opuesto de nuestra cita. Así que corrí dramáticamente rodeando la enorme estación, en una mano el GPS y con otra el paraguas, rogando llegar a tiempo. Esquivando a chicos con uniformes escolares, bicicletas y semáforos en rojos, por fin logré llegar exactamente a tiempo, a la entrada B2 Shinjuku Sanchome en donde ya me estaba esperando el Sr. Harrison, mánager de Eizo Sakamoto.
Subimos hasta el restaurante y esperamos a que se reuniese con nosotros, el cual sucedió de inmediato, algo que me dejó impresionada, puesto que contaba con la demora típica de una estrella de rock. Pero Eizo Sakamoto no es de esa clase de estrellas banales. A pesar de ser un gran artista y cantante reconocido internacionalmente, el trato recibido durante nuestro encuentro periodístico fue el de un auténtico caballero, de fácil sonrisa y carácter afable, logrando crear un ambiente relajado y distendido; es más, todavía no me puedo creer que el gran Eizo, en medio de la reunión se hubiese levantado para buscar y servirme un café. Supongo que todos estos rasgos unidos a su inagotable creatividad explican el por qué sigue siendo uno de los artistas más carismáticos y queridos por muchos fans en el mundo.

Durante esta entrevista (en inglés), sus respuestas nos llevaron a conocer muchas facetas de su vida personal, profesional y artística. Por eso él es el indicado para resumirnos cómo se desenvolvió la escena Heavy Metal en Japón: “Fue un movimiento importante de sonidos loud con grandes grupos que tuvieron mucho éxito y otras bandas japonesas deseaban ese éxito. Una época para recordar”
Sakamoto además nos contó cómo cada una de sus bandas le ha dejado gratos momentos: “The JAM Project guardo un gran recuerdo. Anthem, fue al principio de mi carrera y fue lo más importante puesto que estaba todavía pensando en una banda, y fue así que surgió como un grupo japonés tradicional heavy metal. Animetal fue donde me consagré en mi carrera musical pero eso cambió después de Ai Senshi. Ahora Eizo Japan es mi más grande proyecto. Además, nos gusta grabar muchas canciones de anime y hacer muchos arreglos para animes. Me han gustado las mejores actuaciones en vivo que he hecho en cada una de las bandas.”
Latinoamérica ha sido en lo últimos años su destino frecuente. Muchos fans en nuestro continente lo escuchan y lo adoran. Por eso, para Sakamoto es “una experiencia excitante”, el cual me narró esta grandiosa anécdota: “Lo que me llamó la atención fue que en mi primera vez que toqué en Latinoamérica fue en Brasil, y la gente se sabía las letras de las canciones de los Animes y las cantaron conmigo. Fue una experiencia muy sorprendente.” De hecho, estuvo en febrero de este año en Perú y en abril en Costa Rica; ahora estará nuevamente en Chile presentándose en el Anime Expo Evolution el próximo 23 de junio en el Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho.
¿Futuros planes? Su voz adquirió un matiz más diáfano y animado; me dijo que le gustaría cantar música metal en español y en inglés y que está concentrado en la grabación de un nuevo disco. Además, realizar más viajes a Latinoamérica pero con la ilusión de también tocar en Europa algún día.

Las casi dos horas pasaron volando pero fueron pocas para todo lo que este gran artista japonés nos había dejado conocer un poco de su vida. Nos despedimos con algunas fotos para registrar este honroso encuentro, intercambiar saludos y promesas de volvernos a reunir y le grabé en japonés su despedida: “Estoy muy contento de reunirme contigo hoy, de hablar contigo mucho hoy, espero verte pronto en Colombia, España y otros países. Gracias Colectivo Bunka por la entrevista de hoy, muchas gracias, Eizo se va a esforzar de ahora en adelante, muchas gracias. Hasta que nos veamos de nuevo. Eizo Sakamoto.”

«An interview with Eizo Sakamoto!» That was the phrase that kept repeating over and over to me and all my friends in Tokyo. But, of course, is that kind of opportunities do not arise every day meanwhile I was enjoying this great metropolis such as a tourist.
Consecrated artist, ex-formerly of JAM Project, Animetal, and Anthem, widely known for his songs «Juppongatana» (Rurouni Kenshin) and «Towa no Mirai» (Rurouni Kenshin Movie Ending), plus countless covers of anime with sounds metal, he had confirmed my request to meet up to talk and learn more about their future projects, but also their experiences in this exclusive encounter with Colectivo Bunka. Kindly we agreed to meet at an Italian restaurant, within these huge buildings of Shinjuku, a district where you can find everything from the best restaurants to the most glamorous fashion shops, offices of the best banks brands and its basement, a station Subway!
We arranged our meeting at 11 o’clock. Really this is a generous hour, because the night before had been invited to attend a rehearsal of the rock band HumanDrive at Orpheus Records in Koiwa (address Chiba) which had lasted until dawn, which need all the extra time could win. Thus, with my tired face, I rushed from where I was staying, in Sangubashi, 5 minutes by train to Shinjuku grand station.
I had enough some good time so I thought, «the restaurant as the map is only a few hundred meters and although it’s raining, why take the subway? I want to see the environment and listen these street louds on Shinjuku». Big mistake! If you do not know very well the infinite number of outputs this season, and that’s what happened to me once out of the station and when the GPS managed to stand, I was in the opposite point of our appointment completely. So I ran dramatically surrounding the huge station, GPS in one hand and my umbrella in other, begging to be on time. Dodging boy’s school uniforms, bicycles and red traffic lights, I finally got to arrive on time, at the entrance to Shinjuku Sanchome B2 where was waiting for me Mr. Harrison, Eizo Sakamoto’s Manager.
We went to the restaurant and waited for Eizo to join us, which happened immediately, something that impressed me, because I though the typical delay of a rock star. But Eizo Sakamoto is not that kind of stars banal. Despite being a great artist and singer internationally recognized, during our meeting journalism he was a true gentleman, easy smile and friendly nature, getting to create a relaxed atmosphere; indeed, still I cannot believe that the great Eizo, amid the meeting he had been raised to seek and serve me coffee. I guess all these special actions linked with his endless creativity explain why he remains one of the most charismatic and loved artists by many worldwide fans.
During this interview, their answers led us to learn many aspects of their personal, professional and artistic life. Therefore, he is the one to summarize how the scene Heavy Metal in Japan was unfolded: «It was an important movement loud sound with large groups that were very successful and other Japanese bands wanted that success. A time to remember about.»

Sakamoto also told us how each of its bands has left great moments: «The JAM Project I have great memories. Anthem, was the beginning of my career and was the most important since I was still thinking about a band, and was emerged as a traditional Japanese heavy metal group. Animetal was where I devoted my career but that changed after Ai Senshi. Now Eizo Japan is my biggest project. We also like to record many songs of anime and anime make many arrangements. I liked the best live performances I’ve done in each of the bands.»
In the recent years, Latin America has been his frequent destination. Many fans in our continent listen and worship him. For Sakamoto, is «an exciting experience,» which told me this great story: «When I was in my first time playing in Latin America was in Brazil, and people knew the lyrics of the Anime songs and sang with me, catching my attention. It was very surprising.» In fact, he was in February this year in Peru and in April in Costa Rica; now, he will be back in Chile performing at the Anime Expo Evolution on 6/23 at Centro Cultural Estacion Mapocho.
Future Plans? His voice took on a bright and vibrant sound, I said me that he’d like to sing metal music in Spanish and English and he is focused on recording a new album. Also, make more trips to Latin America, but also with the hope of one day playing in Europe.
