SXSW Music Festival, happening from March 11-16 in Austin, featured a number of asian talented artists from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and other asian countries in the currently announced list, in addition to 250 and Reality Club, there are six Taiwanese talents to discover, namely Chih Siou, Fire Ex. Mong Tong, The Dinosaur’s Skin, Majin and Gummy B.
Chih Siou a highly acclaimed singer-songwriter with a unique personal style and cross-genre music, after a year and a half of hibernation released his latest single «A Universe Without Me» in December 2023, and will premiere it at SXSW.
As one of the most anticipated rappers of the new generation in Taiwan, Gummy B was showing up in the Taiwanese hip-hop talent show ‘The Rappers’ season 2 and was recognized by fans as a ”divine“ performer, which won him the Best Live Performance Awards at the 2023 Golden Indie Music Awards.
The Dinosaur’s Skin, the “first ever reptile rock band» who collaborated with Summer Salt on the single «If I Say I Love You,» is heading to Austin with their «Jurassic Rock» following their impressive performance at Taiwanese Waves in New York last year!
Majin is a multicultural female rapper of Taiwanese and German descent who grew up in Indonesia. With her skillful blend of Boombap, Melodic, Afro beat, R & B, Ballad and Pop music, she has opened up a whole new page of Hip Hop music in Taiwan.
Worldwide fan base and hailed as the new wave of Taiwanese music, psychedelic duo Mong Tong will release their freshest EP «銘Epigraphy» in March, and will embark on the U.S. tour meanwhile, with the first stop being SXSW to premiere their new song.
Fire Ex. one of the most representative punk rock bands in Taiwan, also scheduled to launch the «2024 Fire EX. USA Tour» in March and make their third appearance at SXSW. Fire EX. expressed, they are ready to return to the Austin stage with their latest album «Human Condition», which was released in June 2023.
The above six Taiwanese bands will all perform at 2024 Taiwan Beats Showcase at SXSW. The Taiwan Beats Showcase, initiated by Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID) and organized by Young Team Productions, has been widely acclaimed in recent years. Last year’s show, which was packed with people all night long, was even praised by SXSW’s Music Director as the most successful Taiwan Beats.
