A exclusive interview with San Teletone to Colectivo Bunka from San Gabriel Valley (CA)! – Entrevista exclusiva con San Teletone desde el Valle de San Gabriel (California) para Colectivo Bunka!

Intergalactic Rock: that’s is the sign as they define themselves this musicians born in the United States but with its roots intact native to Indonesia in the lives of their parents. San Teletone arises in the hills of the San Gabriel Valley in California State border. The mixture of cultures has made ​​possible an amalgam of sound that this band continues to strengthen, with strong influences in Funk, Pop, Alternative and Post Rock genres. Therefore, we talk in a exclusive interview with his frontman, Red Misery, for Colectivo Bunka.

Colectivo Bunka. Thank you very much to attend us in this interview for Colombia and Latin America. Briefly, tell us what year borned San Teletone? How did you met to play together?

Red Misery. The universe gave birth to San Teletone in August 2006, and since we’re all Indonesian descent, the three original members met through Indonesian cultural events. We had this idea of making an exciting band and then we started playing and writing music together.

C. B. What the diference between San Teletone with other bands in his music, his lyrics and his visual aesthetic?

R. M. The x factor that separates us from others is our unique, energetic live shows. We try to do something different every show, give them surprises, or even rearrange some songs, because if you wanna hear the songs as recorded then we can listen to the mp3s right? That’s why we always give the people something new to look forward to.

C. B. What topics inspire San Teletone to compose the songs?

R. M. Love, sorrow, anger, hope… Everything that makes us feel, and we hope people can feel what we felt when they listen to us.

C. B. What has been the response from your fans with his songs and his concerts?

R. M. I hear people say that we’re catchy; I see people dance at our shows, and some people come up to us saying, “hey the bass sounds like Jamiroquai” or “the guitar is so Red Hot Chili Peppers” and someone told me I remind them of David Bowie. We take them as compliments, since they are indeed our musical heroes.

C. B. Briefly, what are their plans in this year?

R. M. We are working on our 3rd record that will be released this year, and in the mean time we are still promoting our previous two EPs, Gold of the Star Fish, and Cosmic Angel in Dark Blue, through live shows or youtube videos.

Rock intergaláctico: así se autodefinen este cuarteto de músicos nacidos en Estados Unidos pero con sus intactas raíces oriundas de Indonesia en la vida de sus padres. San Teletone surge en las colinas del Valle de San Gabriel, en el fronterizo Estado de California. La mezcla de culturas ha hecho posible una amalgama sonora que esta banda sigue fortaleciendo, con marcadas influencias en Funk, Pop, Alternativo y Post Rock. Por ello, entrevistamos en exclusiva a su cantante y frontman, Red Misery para el Colectivo Bunka.

C. B. Brevemente cuéntanos en qué año nació San Teletone y cómo fue que Uds. se conocieron para tocar juntos.

R. M. El universo dio a luz a San Teletone en agosto de 2006, y puesto que todos somos descendientes de Indonesia, los tres miembros originales se reunieron a través de eventos culturales que sobre Indonesia se habían organizado en California. Teníamos esta idea de hacer una banda interesante y luego empezamos a tocar y escribir música juntos.

C. B. ¿Qué diferencia a San Teletone con las demás bandas en cuanto a su música y su estética visual?

R. M. El factor x que nos separa de los otros son nuestras presentaciones en vivo con los fans, únicos y muy enérgicos. Tratamos de hacer algo diferente cada show, les damos sorpresas, o incluso reorganizamos algunas canciones, porque si quieres escuchar las canciones como están grabadas luego podemos escuchar en otras versiones en formato MP3, ¿cierto? Es por eso que siempre damos a la gente algo nuevo que esperar.

C. B. ¿Qué temas inspira a San Teletone para componer las canciones?

R. M. El amor, la tristeza, la ira, la esperanza… Todo lo que nos hace sentir mediante las emociones, y esperamos que la gente puede sentir lo que sentimos cuando nos escuchan.

C. B. ¿Cuál ha sido la respuesta de la gente al escucharlos?

R. M. Escucho a la gente decir que tocamos sonidos pegajosos, veo bailar a la gente en nuestros shows, y algunas personas se acercan a nosotros diciendo: «hey, el bajo suena como Jamiroquai» o «la guitarra se parece a Red Hot Chili Peppers» y alguien me dijo: «me recuerdan a David Bowie». Las tomamos como elogios, ya que son en realidad nuestros héroes musicales.

C. B. ¿Qué planes tiene la banda este año? 

R. M. Estamos trabajando en nuestro tercer disco que será lanzado este año, y mientras tanto seguimos haciendo promoción de nuestros dos anteriores EPs, Gold of the Star Fish y Cosmic Angel in Dark Blue, a través de shows en vivo o videos subidos en YouTube.
