Empezando esta crónica recordé algo curioso: ahora estamos en otoño. The Akabane Vulgars On Strong Bypass llegaron a la Costa Este en esta estación del año en la que despedimos el caluroso y vacacional verano y nos preparamos para convivir con la nieve en el invierno. Lo extraño es que cuando ellas realizaron su exitoso debut en el SXSW 2012 en Austin, arribaron a inicios de la primavera. Entonces concluí sonriendo que este trío de chicas son las guardianas de las estaciones, y en verdad es así. Cuando escuches las canciones grabadas en su reciente disco The Rumps Smolder at The Gloom, sentirás tener una fogata musical que nos calienta el alma y nos hace disfrutar aún más hasta el más cruel frío que pudiera existir. Más allá de sus temas y de sus ejecuciones con los instrumentos, se siente pasión y fuego que nos conforta para activar la chispa y de inmediato sacudir nuestras cabezas para avivar una fiesta musical que nos traen de Oriente a nuestros occidentales oídos. La Gran Manzana es un gran rompecabezas urbano; casi todas las nacionalidades conviven entre sí. Chinatown, por ejemplo, es un conjunto de ciudades dentro de la gran ciudad; se siente a ratos caminar en algún vecindario de Hong Kong, Hanoi, Seúl o Tokio. Tal vez eso atrajo a mi amigo John Genzale junto con Miki, Kei y Yumi para decidir a tocar en dos shows, uno en el Lit Lounge, y el segundo en Trash Bar, cruzando el East River hasta Brooklyn. Y no es para menos. Una banda japonesa que toque en la ciudad de los rascacielos y con panorámica postal a lo Woody Allen en su película Manhattan, es como lograr tocar el cielo no con las manos, sino con lo que más deleita a los dioses: la música. Así, The Akabane Vulgars On Strong Bypass llegaron a morder un poco la jugosa manzana, y en mi opinión, lo hicieron con todo el gusto.

Del show en vivo, aunque fue corto (alrededor de 40 minutos) fue muy bueno, en especial cuando tocaron un cover de la famosa canción de The Animals, House of the Rising Sun. Pero temas como Tokyo Wang!, Baby Baby (primer tema de la noche), Rendez-Vous entre otros lograron darnos una muestra exquisita de cómo estas mujeres se ganaron el corazón de sus fans. Luego de su presentación, los aplausos llovieron y la fiesta empezó a sacudir el lugar.

Salimos, caminamos un poco por el East Village y llegamos a compartir una deliciosa pizza y entre risas mezcladas con lecciones de japonés y español (tomate en japonés es tomato, pan es igual en japonés) nos contaron que están muy felices y agradecidas de la gente que ha ido a verlas, incluso desde su concierto en Austin. También anhelan irse a viajar por Latinoamérica, por lo que les atrajo nuestro idioma, y desean regresar una vez más pero incluyendo Canadá. Nos despedimos con un abrazo, con los autógrafos y con la sensación que también disfrutamos de su compañía y de su espíritu musical que ahora partirá de nuevo al otro lado, a la Costa Oeste, para cerrar con un ¡wang! sonoro y cumplir su sueño: viajar y tocar alrededor del mundo. ¡Arigato!

Beginning this chronicle, I remembered something funny: now we are in fall. The Akabane Vulgars On Strong Bypass came to the East Coast in this season of year when we say goodbye for summer warm vacation and we prepare to live with the snow during the winter. The strange thing is that when they made ​​their successful debut at SXSW 2012 in Austin, arrived in early spring. So, I smiled and though that this trio of fantastic girls are the guardians of the seasons, and so is. When you hear the songs recorded on their latest album The Rumps Smolder at The Gloom, you’ll feel to have a musical fire that warms our soul and makes us even more to enjoy the cruelest cold. Beyond their lyrics and their performances with instruments, it feels passion and fire that comforts us to activate the spark and immediately shake our heads to stoke a musical feast that bring us from Western for our East ears. The Big Apple is an urban big puzzle because almost all nationalities live together. Chinatown, for example, is a set of cities within the big city; sometimes you feel walking in some neighborhood of Hong Kong, Hanoi, Seoul or Tokyo. Maybe that attracted my friend John Genzale along with Miki, Kei and Yumi to decide to play two shows, one at the Lit Lounge, and the second at Trash Bar, across the East River to Brooklyn. And no wonder, a Japanese band to play in the city of skyscrapers and Woody Allen’s panoramic postcard in his film Manhattan, is like touch the sky without hands, because with what most delights the gods: their music. So, The Akabane Vulgars On Strong Bypass came to bite a little juicy apple, and in my opinion, they did tasting with placer.

Their live show, although it was short (about 40 minutes) was very good, especially when they played a cover of the famous song by The Animals, House of the Rising Sun. But some songs like Tokyo Wang!, Baby Baby (opening song of the night), Rendez-Vous and others achieve to give us an exquisite sample of how these women caught the hearts of their fans. After her presentation, the applause rained and the party began to shake the place.

We left the venue, walked a bit through the East Village and we share a delicious pizza, and between laughing mixed with Japanese and Spanish lessons, told us they are very happy and grateful to the people who has gone to see her show, even from their debut concert in Austin. They also yearn to go travel around Latin America, so they found interesting our language, and want to return here again but including Canada to make a tour. We parted with a hug, some autographs and also, we enjoyed her company and her musical spirit whose now they will back to the other side, to the West Coast, to close this awesome tour with a wang!, and get her dream of traveling and playing around the world.
