LogBook Bunka en la más reciente edición del SXSW 2015 del 17 al 22 de marzo en la ciudad de Austin con nuestro corresponsal gráfico Ric Quintanilla. Empezaron temprano en el Grackle con Chihiro Yamazaki & Route 14 Band trayéndonos su suave trompeta para darnos ese toque jazz al SXSW, ¡y para nada decepcionó! Justo el momento exacto para ayudar a romper el hielo y brindarnos un gran día cargado de música maravillosa.
La siguiente fue otra veterana SXSW: mothercoat. Ayudaron a amplificar la multitud un poco más con su sonido de rock hipnótico. A veces son etiquetados como math rock y poseen una estructura muy intrincada y compleja para profundizar el sonido de su poderosa música.
Zarigani$ fueron las que siguieron en el listado; este potente dúo tampoco es ajeno al Japan Nite y al SXSW. Ellas son la verdadera encarnación de un gran sonido empacado en pequeños paquetes. No las juzgues mal sólo porque rockean con tan sólo con una guitarra y su batería, ¡juntas te pueden levantar los ánimos sin importar qué tan abajo los tengas!
Otra que vuelve al SXSW a desatar la euforia después del mediodía fueron BO-PEEP a cantar sus grandes éxitos. ¡Definitivamente este trío es un verdadero “POWER”! Ellas siempre son y serán un placer verlas aquí en vivo.
Después de BO-PEEP, aparecieron en el escenario el bloque de las demás bandas que estarían en gran concierto oficial del viernes por la noche: QUORUM, TsuShiMaMiRe, Samurai Dynamites y Pirates Canoe, cerrando la tarde para luego ir a descansar un poco y prepararme para cubrir el K-Pop Night Out.
Tan pronto ingresé, The Barberettes ya se habían montado a la tarima. Cuento 6 personas en el escenario: tres lindas cantantes, el contrabajista, el tecladista y el baterista. Y estas muchachas cantaron su gran sonido lleno de matices clásicos de los años 50.
EE fue la siguiente banda. ¡Arte total! El corazón de su presentación en vivo es una obra de arte puro; grandes beats, maquillaje y danza experimental durante todo su show. ¡Fue una completa sobrecarga sensorial! Ellos aceleraron con su presentación a la ya cautiva multitud llevándola a la máxima euforia.
¡HitchHiker había vuelto! Estuvo agitando tanto el recinto, ¡al punto que creí ver trozos de aislamiento cayendo del techo! Desde el principio hasta el final de su show, la gente no paraba de saltar sintiéndose esa extraña pero agradable electricidad en el aire.
Después de la medianoche, Crayon Pop se tomó el escenario, y alienados con FX desde el año pasado, este grupo ídolo coreano tiene muchos fans aquí cantando todas sus canciones y animando su espectáculo con carteles. Con la premiere a nivel mundial de su performance “FM”, cerraron su glorioso show en este SXSW.
Y cerrando la noche, Epik High. Yo creí que los gritos de la audiencia eran para Crayon Pop, ya que las damas subieron a la tarima junto con este grupo de hip hop para realizarles una presentación ante sus fans. Con Con una mezcla del hip hop de la vieja guardia junto con la nueva escuela de los ritmos beats, ¡el Elysium demostró una vez más de qué estaba hecho!It was an early start at The Grackle and Chihiro Yamazaki and the Route 14 Band brings their smooth trumpet led Jazz sound to SXSW, and the never disappoint! Just the thing to help kick off a day of great music.Next up was another SXSW veteran, mothercoat. They help amp up the crowd some more with their hypnotic rock sound. These guys are sometimes described as math rock and they have some very intricate and complex structure to the deep sound of their music.
Zarigani$ was next on the stage and this power duo also is no stranger to Japan Nite and SXSW. They are the true embodiment of big sound in small packages! Don’t misjudge them just because they only rock a guitar and drums, these two will lift your spirits, no matter how down you might be!BO-PEEP returns to SXSW and amps up the afternoon with their hits! This trio will “POWER” you over! They are always a treat to see here!
After BO-PEEP, it was a block of the bands that will be in the Friday night showcase: QUORUM, TsuShiMaMiRe, Samurai Dynamites, and Pirates Canoe. And with an incredible afternoon of music, it was time for a break, and prepare for K-Pop Night Out.As I make my way inside, The Barberettes have taken the stage. I count 6 on stage, 3 singers, 1 upright bass, 1 keyboard and the drums. And these girls belt out some big sound with a classic 50’s spin.Next up was EE, total art. This group was performance art at its core; big beats, makeup, and experimental dance the whole show! It was a total sensory overload! They revved up the already jammed pack crowd to the max!Back again was HitchHiker! He was bouncing the house so much, I think I spotted pieces of insulation falling from the ceiling! From the start of his set to the end, he had the crowd jumping up and down and the electricity was in the air!
Taking the stage just after midnight was Crayon Pop. And following in line with FX from last year, this Korean Idol group had tons of fans, singing along with all the songs and cheering them on with posters. They ended their set with the worldwide performance premiere of “FM”.And closing out the night, was Epik High! And I thought the screams from the fans where loud for Crayon Pop, the ladies in the house let their presence be known when this Hip Hop group took the stage. With a mix of hip-hop old school and new school rhythm beats, Elysium was once again, having its foundation tested!
