Dialogamos con este trío que nos recuerda que la música debe estar en constante creación e innovación. – We spoke with this trio who remind us music must be in constant development and innovation.

En los albores del año nuevo de 2007, en un jam session celebrado dentro del Kokubunji Rubber Soul, un bar en la gran Tokio, una mujer y un hombre decidieron participar; luego estas sesiones improvisadas empezaron a tomar forma ya que cada semana se reunían para tocar juntos y divertir a los espíritus. Y allí, en esas sesiones apareció una banda que admira a The Police y a los grandes exponentes del rock de los setentas y ochentas pero con el sentimiento de hacer música más fresca y novedosa. Molice empezó a tomar forma y fue así que en la primavera de ese año su Molice Demo los empujó hacia una carrera musical tanto en su pais como  en el extranjero. La química para desencadenar estas reacciones musicales proviene de la voz de la bella Rinko, las cuerdas a cargo de Yuzuru y la percusión en las manos de Takashi. Molice entró con fuerza en Norteamérica, por lo que Good Charamel Records se encargó de traerlos para una gira promocional de su segundo álbum en el 2010 y en ese mismo año, fueron escogidos como uno de los 5 grupos japoneses más exitosos e influyentes. Además, han visitado Reino Unido, Europa y hasta Vietnam, en el CAMA Festival celebrado en Hanoi. Ahora la banda está realizando una nueva gira de su reciente producción llamada Neugravity (lanzado el pasado 18 de abril), por lo que en un breve espacio de su agenda nos enviaron sus respuestas para Wave.

Colectivo Bunka. Muchas gracias por aceptar esta entrevista para Colombia y América Latina. Brevemente coméntenos cómo nació la idea de tocar juntos.

Rinko. Yuzuru y Rinko empezaron juntos en una banda diferente. Cuando esa banda se separó, tuvimos una imagen clara de lo que queríamos para la próxima banda. Nos fijamos en un bar cerca de nuestro estudio de grabación llamado Rubber Soul, que es un bar al estilo de los Beatles. Y en ese lugar, encontrado a nuestro baterista Takashi. Lo invitamos a tocar y se unió a nosotros.

C. B. ¿Cómo nació el nombre de la banda?

Rinko. Somos fans de muchas bandas y muchos artistas. Queríamos mostrar eso en nuestro nombre. Nos gusta The Police. También nos gusta Jim Morrison de The Doors, Morrissey de The Smiths, Modigiliani, Maurice Sendak, Mozart, Maureen Tucker… Tomamos la sílaba «mo» de la pronunciación ka-ta-ka-na y luego lo combinamos con la palabra Police.  De esa forma nació el nombre de la banda.

C. B. ¿Qué temas inspiran a Molice para componer?

Rinko. Temas de todos los géneros: música, películas, libros, museos, deportes, naturaleza, los seres humanos… sólo tiene que ser real.

C. B. ¿Cuáles son sus mayores influencias musicales?

Rinko. Tenemos muchas influencias, especialmente The Police, Pixies, The Doors, y todo el rock and roll.

C. B. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia de tocar fuera de Japón?

Rinko. Esas son experiencias muy importantes para nosotros. La mayoría del público no conoce nuestra música. Hay un aire de tensión cuando la gente nos ve. Por lo tanto, queremos empezar con nuestro mejor ritmo, un mejor sonido y la mejor melodía a todo momento con el fin de aliviar esa tensión en el lugar y a la vez logremos conectarnos con nuestra audiencia. Hay muchas diferencias en cada país, pero tienen una cosa en común: realmente les gustan mucho nuestra música.

C. B. En la historia de Molice, ¿cuál es lo más importante que nunca olvidarás? ¿Por qué?

Rinko.La cosa más importante que nunca podemos olvidar es que tenemos cada vez muchos más verdaderos seguidores. Y en muchos países, tenemos un montón de fans de verdad. Realmente lo agradezco, porque le debemos nuestra música Molice;  a ellos le debemos nuestra conexión especial.

C. B. En pocas palabras, háblanos de su nuevo disco Neugravity, al igual que el proceso de producción para este álbum y sus expectativas.

Rinko. Nos gustan las imágenes de ciencia ficción. Todos nuestros discos tienen un tema cinematográfico de ciencia-ficción: el primer álbum es π; el segundo se llamó Fahrenheit 451 y el penúltimo álbum lo titulamos Blade Runner. En la ciencia ficción la gente crea nuevos mundos nuevos. En nuestra música también es necesario. Cada disco fue creado de la misma manera, pero usamos cada vez la mejor tecnología para producir nuestros trabajos con mayor calidad.

C. B. ¿Cuál es su opinión sobre la escena japonesa en todo el mundo en la actualidad?

Rinko. Hay un montón de bandas indie en Japón. Algunas bandas indie tocan música interesante, pero a veces son aburridas porque su música es similar a las bandas anteriores. Creemos que las bandas indie deberían crear una música muy original, el tipo de melodía que pueda cambiar el mundo.

C. B. ¿Conoces o has oido cualquier banda o músico latinoamericano? (Si su respuesta es no, ¿qué les gustaría saber de América Latina acerca de su música?)

Rinko. Nos gusta Sergio Mendes. Su ritmo tiene un atractivo natural para nosotros. Nos sentimos inspirados por él. La música de Molice es música para bailar.

C. B. ¿Qué planes tienen este año?

Rinko. Esperamos tocar en más shows en cualquier parte y vamos a empezar la creación de nuestro nuevo álbum. Creando álbumes es nuestra misión, nuestra vida.

At the beginning of New Year 2007 in a jam session held in the Kokubunji Rubber Soul, a bar in the greater Tokyo, a woman and a man chose to participate, and then these jam sessions began to take shape so each week we gather to play together and entertain the spirits. And there, at those meetings came a band The Police and admires the great exponents of rock from the 70’s and 80’s but with the feeling of making music more fresh and new. Molice began to take shape and was so in the spring of that year his Molice Demo pushed towards a career both in his country and abroad. The chemistry to cause these reactions comes from the musical voice of the beautiful Rinko, strings by Yuzuru and percussion in the hands of Takashi. Molice entered strongly in America, so Charamel Good Records was responsible for bringing them to a promotional tour for their second album in 2010 and that same year, were chosen as one of the 5 Japanese groups most successful and influential. They have also visited UK, Europe and even Vietnam, on CAMA Festival held in Hanoi. Now the band is doing a new tour of his recent production called Neugravity (released April 18^th), so that in a short space of his agenda sent their answers to Wave.

Colectivo Bunka. Thank you very much to attend us in this interview for Colombia and Latin America. Briefly, How did you met to play together?

Rinko. Yuzuru & Rinko started off together in a different band. When that band broke up, we had a clear image of what we wanted in the next band. We looked at a bar near our recording studio called RUBBER SOUL which is a Beatles style’s bar. Eventually, we found our drummer Takashi there. We invited him to play and he joined us.

C. B. How was born the name of the band?

Rinko. We are fans of many bands and artists. We wanted to show that in our name. We like The Police. We also like Jim Morrison of the Doors, Morrissey from the Smiths, Modigiliani, Maurice Sendak, Mozart, Maureen Tucker… We took their «MO» from the KA-TA-KA-NA pronunciation and we combined them with The Police.

C. B. What topics inspires for Molice to compose?

Rinko. Topics from every genre: music, movies, books, museums, sports, nature, humans… it just has to be real.

C. B. What are your biggest music influences?

Rinko. We have many influences, especially The Police, Pixies, The Doors, & rock’n roll music.

C. B. How was your experience playing outside of Japan?

Rinko. Those are really important experiences for us. Most of the audience doesn’t know our music now. There is an air of tension when people first see us. So, we want to start with our best rhythm, best sound and best melody every time in order to ease the tension in the place and each time we connected with our audience. There are many differences in each country, but they have one thing in common. They all really like music.

C. B. In the Molice’s history, what is the most important session that you never forgive? Why?

Rinko. The most important thing is that we can never forget is that we have so many true supporters every time. And we have a lot of true fans in many countries. We really appreciate it because we owe our MOLICE music to them! We owe our connection to them!

C. B. Briefly, tell us about the new album Neugravity, how was the work of the band for this album and if you have any expectations?

Rinko. We like sci-fi images. All our albums have a sci-fi cinematic theme: 1^st album is π; 2^nd album is Farenheit 451 & 3^rd album is Blade Runner; in sci-fi people create brand new worlds. In our music, it’s necessary, too. Every album was created in the same way, but we used better technology each time.

C. B. What’s your opinion about J-Indie music scene around the world in the present day?

Rinko. There are a lot of indie bands in Japan. Some indie bands play interesting music, but sometimes they are boring because their music is similar to the earlier bands. We think indie bands should create very original music, the type that can change the world.

C. B. Did you know or did you hear any Latin America band or musician? (If your answer is no, what would you like to know of Latin America about your music?)

Rinko. We like Sergio Mendes. His rhythm has a natural appeal to us. We are inspired by him. Molice’s music is dance music.

C. B. What are your plans this year?

Rinko. We hope to play more live shows everywhere and we will start setting up our new album. Creating albums is our lifework.
