A raíz de su reciente lanzamiento de su EP debut, Colectivo Bunka conversó desde la ciudad de Kobe con Yuto Uchino, líder de The Fin., quien nos invitó a descubrir su mundo lleno de nostalgia, surrealismo y emociones convertido en música. – Due to the latest release of their debut EP, Colectivo Bunka spoke with Yuto Uchino, leader of The Fin., who invited us to discover his world full of nostalgia, surrealism and emotions turned into music from Kobe.

El arte hecho música. La música hecha emoción. Emoción hecha surrealismo. Surrealismo hecha memoria. Memoria hecha arte. Una espiral intrínsecamente conectada que nos ha llevado a comprender las subjetivas reacciones de un ser humano condicionado por su cultura, lenguaje y visión de su propio entorno. Y en ese camino, nos llega como un regalo de la memoria del pasado nostálgico del pop de los ochenta este EP: Glowing Red on the Shore, el cual no sólo nos llamó la atención sino que reafirma cómo la nostalgia británica se niega a desaparecer. Como un fantasma que emerge repentinamente, temas como Across The North Pole o Faded Light nos transporta a ese surrealismo olvidado que todavía tiene la maravillosa forma de sorprendernos. Por esa razón, The Fin. es de esos grupos que no deseamos que sus canciones terminen sino que sigan sonando.

Formados en el año 2010 en la ciudad portuaria y comercial de Kobe, capital de la Prefectura de Hyōgo, The Fin. surge de esas amistades de infancia entre Yuto Uchino (vocalista y teclados), junto con Ryosuke Odagaki (guitarra), Takayasu Taguchi (bajo) y Kaoru Nakazawa (batería). Un cuarteto que en su corta existencia han ganado nuevos fans y un nuevo contrato discográfico con Hip Land Music, sello independiente quienes lanzaron el pasado mes de marzo su EP debut. The Fin. ha estado en el ojo de la crítica especializada en la escena musical asiática, destacándose un artículo completo con el reconocido diario The Japan Times, en donde asegura su vocalista que “hay que hacer algo distinto con la música occidental que normalmente escuchamos.”

Por esa razón, Yuto aceptó amablemente esta entrevista para un medio latinoamericano en el que no sólo nos dejó este saludo, sino que nos abrió un poco su mundo y de paso recomendarnos a ojo cerrado otra gran banda que ya habíamos reseñado antes: The Paellas, el cual pueden escuchar la entrevista aquí.

Colectivo Bunka. Te agradecemos que nos hayas aceptado esta entrevista para Colombia y Latinoamérica. Es un honor hablar con usted. En pocas palabras, cuéntanos sobre las raíces de la banda; ¿Cómo se conocieron para luego tocar juntos?

The Fin.. De nada. Nos conocimos en un jardín infantil y en la escuela secundaria. Desde entonces hemos sido amigos. Y hace cuatro años fundamos esta banda.

C. B. ¿Cuál es el significado del nombre de la banda? ¿Cómo fue que decidieron este nombre «The Fin. (punto)»?

T. F… De hecho el nombre no tiene significado. Es una especie de sentimiento.

C. B. Estábamos escuchando algunas canciones en su canal de Youtube. Sentimos un poco esa influencia de esos sonidos pop de la nostalgia británica de los 80’s. ¿Cuáles son tus más grandes influencias musicales que te inspiran para tocar este sonido diáfano y estas canciones del alma?

T. F… Eso es cierto. A mis padres les encantan el sonido pop y la música rock de los 80’s. He estado escuchando ese tipo de música cuando era niño. Y actualmente, las recientes escenas Indie Rock, Synth Pop y el Chill Wave influyen en mí.

C. B. ¿En qué temas se inspira The Fin. para componer y tocar las canciones?

T. F… Mis obras tienen mucho sentimiento surrealista. La vida cotidiana, las experiencias y las cosas que sueño me vuelven siempre creativo.

C. B. El pasado mes de marzo, habían lanzado su EP debut Glowing Red on the Shore. Brevemente, cuéntanos cómo fue el proceso de producción y cómo han sido la respuesta de la gente y de la prensa sobre su EP.

T. F… No intentamos hacer un EP al principio. Sólo hacer música y grabarla. Cuando subimos nuestra primera canción Faded Light en Sondcloud, recibimos muchos mensjaes de apoyo y buenos comentarios de todo el mundo. Estábamos muy emocionados. Asi que el EP es una colección de temas de nuestros inicios.

C. B. En su opinión personal, ¿cuál es su visión sobre la escena musical indie japonesa alrededor del mundo en la actualidad?

T. F… En mi opinión, la música indie japonesa es muy interesante en estos días ya que tiene influencias de la música y la individualidad occidental como la japonesa. Tenemos una única sensibilidad, por lo que creo que es sensacional.

C. B. ¿Conoces o has oído algún artista o alguna banda de Latinoamérica? (Si su respuesta es no, ¿qué te gustaría conocer de Latinoamérica en cuanto a su música?)

T. F… Me temo que no sé casi nada sobre algún músico de Latinoamérica. Pero cuando era niño escuchaba de vez en cuando a Ricky Martin.

C. B. ¿Has visto alguna oportunidad de presentarse el extranjero, por ejemplo el SXSW en los Estados Unidos u otro país a corto plazo?

T. F… En un futuro cercano, estaremos tocando el extranjero. Esperamos irnos de gira por los Estados Unidos y Europa pronto.

C. B. En la historia de The Fin., ¿cuál ha sido el concierto más importante que nunca olvidarían? ¿Por qué?

T. F… Definitivamente nuestro primer concierto. Sentí que esta banda es increíble. Desde entonces, tengo confianza en mí mismo y en los demás.

C. B. ¿Qué artistas o bandas japonesas actualmente nos puedes recomendar?

T. F… Me gustaría recomendarles una banda llamada The Paellas.

C. B. ¿Qué planes tienes este año?

T. F… Estaremos de gira por Japón y tocaremos en un festival de verano. Y grabar algunas nuevas canciones. Sé que vale la pena esperar.

C. B. ¿Cómo te imaginas la banda en un par de años, en el futuro?

T. F… The Fin. les mostrará muchos aspectos sobre el estilo musical. Esperamos tener muchos oyentes en todo el mundo.

C. B. Nuevamente, muchas gracias por esta entrevista y nos gustaría que enviasen un saludo a nuestra audiencia en Colombia y Latinoamérica.

T. F… Muchas gracias por escucharnos. Estamos muy felices de conectarnos con ustedes a través de la música. Nos encantaría ir a Colombia y a Latinoamérica.

Art made music. Music made emotion. Emotion made surrealism. Surrealism made memory. Memory made art. Thus, a strongest linked spiral that has led us to understand the subjective answers from a human being who has conditioned by his culture, language and vision of his own environment. Regarding on this point, we get as a gift from the last 80s pop music nostalgic memory this EP: Glowing Red on the Shore, which not only caught our attention but reaffirms how British nostalgia refuses to go away. Like a ghost that suddenly appearing, we heard songs such as Across the North Pole or Faded Light with those forget surrealism that still takes us for the wonderful way to surprise us. For that reason, The Fin. is one of those bands that do not want their songs finished but will continue to sound.

Formed in 2010 in the port and financial city of Kobe, capital of Hyōgo Prefecture, The Fin. comes from those childhood friendships between Yuto Uchino (vocals & keyboards), along with Ryosuke Odagaki (guitar), Takayasu Taguchi (bass) and Kaoru Nakazawa (drums). A quartet who in their short time has got new fans and a new label with the independent Hip Land Music, who released last March this debut EP. The Fin. has been in the eye of the critics in the Asian music scene, highlighting a full article posted on The Japan Times where vocalist said that «you have to make something different from the Western music you listen to.»

For all this, Yuto kindly accepted this interview for a Latin American media and did leave this greeting. He did open us his world a little bit. But also, Yuto recommended us with eye closed another great band that we have already outlined before: The Paellas, who you can listen their interview here.

Colectivo Bunka. Thank you very much to attend us in this interview for Colombia and Latin America. It is an honor to speak with you. In short lines, tell us about the roots of the band; how did you meet to play together?

The Fin.. You are welcome. We met in a kindergarten and junior high school. We have been friend since then. Four years ago, we formed this band.

C. B. What’s meaning the name of the band? How was you have decided this name “The Fin. (Period)”?

T. F… Actually, the name do not have meaning. It’s kind of feeling.

C. B. We were listening some songs from your Youtube channel. We feel a little influence of these 80s nostalgia British pop sounds. What are your biggest musical influences to feel inspired to play this clear sound and these soul songs?

T. F… That’s right. My parents like 80’s pop and rock sounds. I’ve been listening to that kind of music when I was a kid. Actually, the recent Indie Rock, Synth Pop, Chill Wave scenes influence me.

C. B. What topics inspire to The Fin. to compose and play the songs?

T. F… My works have a surreal feeling. Daily life, experiences and things in dreams always make me creative.

C. B. Last March, you have released your debut EP Glowing Red on the Shore. In some brief words, tell us how it was the production process and how have been the answer of the people and media about your EP.

T. F… We didn’t try to make EP at first. Just made music and recorded them. When we uploaded our first song called Faded Light on Sondcloud, a lot of compliment came from around the world. We were so excited. The EP is a collection of the beginning of us.

C. B. In your personal opinion, what is your vision about the Japanese Indie music scene around the world in the present day?

T. F… In my opinion, the Japanese Indie music is very interesting these days. They have influences of the Western music and individuality as Japanese. We have unique sensibility; I think it is so cool.

C. B. Did you know or did you hear any Latin America band or musician? (If your answer is no, what would you like to know of Latin America about your music?)

T. F… I’m afraid that I know next to nothing about Latin America musician. But I listened to Ricky Martin again and again when I was a kid.

C. B. Do you have seen any chance to play in overseas, for example: SXSW in the US, or another country for a short term?

T. F… We could play in overseas in the near future. We hope to tour around to the US and Europe.

C. B. In the history of The Fin., what has been the most important concert that you will never forget? Why?

T. F… It was our first concert. I felt that this band was amazing. It’s the day that I got self-confidence.

C. B. What Japanese bands or artists currently we can recommend?

T. F… I’d like to recommend you a band called The Paellas.

C. B. What plans do you have this year?

T. F… We’ll tour around Japan and play in some summer festival in Japan. And record some new works. I know it’s worth waiting.

C. B. How you imagine the band in a couple of years, in the future?

T. F… The Fin. will show you a lot of aspects about music style. We hope we’ll have a lot of listener all over the world.
